DESCRIPTION:
For those that are inspired by nature, and who appreciate a much slowwwer
pace when away from the city...

You are hereby invited on a *magical* canoe trip in the back country! ;)

The Bowron Lakes are an interconnected lake circuit where there are no
roads, no motors of any kind, no lights, no phones, & very few people. Just
open skies, peaceful waters, majestic mountains, and wildlife at every
sunrise. Must be prepared for rain though!

Do we complete the lake circuit this time? Hmmm.. This back country trip
will depend on the canoe experience (ABILITY) and the overall INTEREST of
the group members.. I have paddled this complete circuit 3 times before,
always completing it in 4 days. This time with the right people, we can
explore more, cook more, laugh more, and connect more. Haha, yeah?

BC Parks has a reservation cost per person of $60 to complete the Lake
Circuit.
If we just relax on the Lakes on the West side - it will be $30 per person.
There are other expenses like canoe rentals, and transportation costs too.

Must bring enough food for 6 days of exercise. Bring stove, water purifier
and dry foods like rice & other non perishable food items. Canned fish
perhaps? The use of the park provided bear caches on this circuit is a
must!  Someone else should bring some string or rope too.

For this trip, the expected time on lakes will be 5-6 days, starting on
July 28th or 29th. Coming out Sat Aug 3rd. Then hanging out at the Arts
Wells music fest for about 2 days. Yup, once we all come out fresh, happy &
relaxed -  we have a Music Festival to attend to!  Yay!!!

We can expect to meet hundreds of like minded people at The Arts Wells
Music Festival - from Aug 2nd to 5th! There will be over 100 musical
performances on 9 stages of differing genres. Have a look at the impressive
line up below! There will also be plays, films, and other interesting
workshops. This is not an event to be missed!!! :D

HEY - After spending 5 days in the bush, does FREE FOOD sound good too? :)
haha!  yeah?

For those of us that are still strong enough to commit their time to
volunteer long days - we can be fed by the Island Mountain Arts crew. By
filling out a volunteer application & by committing a $110 deposit - we can
attend for free, and if "we are good" we still get our money back. Though,
I expect us to BE GREAT! GO TEAM!! :)

This trip has room for 4 participants (one car load) and we may need a
second vehicle if part of the group does not want to attend the music
festival.

DISTANCE A or B??
A. Full Canoe Circuit - 100km+ of paddling, 15-25 km of portaging. Wearing
heavy full size pack, holding canoe upside down over our heads on portage
hikes.. ( 5-6 days req )

B. Hang out in the sun. Seeking sightings of moose, beavers, etc. 18km+ of
paddling, 8.8 km of portaging. Wearing medium size packs, holding canoe
beside body on short walks. ~ 4 days or less.

FITNESS / ELEVATION GAIN: ~150 metres. Strong back, good fitness and the
ability to keep warm is required.

TIME NEEDED:  July 27 - Aug 5th or 6th.  ( 10 Days )

DEPARTURE TIME AND LOCATION:  Friday eve July 26th or 27th -
Saturday Morning - TBD!

LATEST RETURN TIME: Afternoon of Tuesday, Aug 6th - at the latest.   Hmm, I
prefer to be back Monday morning on the 5th myself.  Others??

STRICT SIGN-UP DEADLINE: End of Saturday July 20th to finalize our costs &
logistics, please.

PLEASE INDICATE: If you are bringing a car, and your cell phone # if you
have one.

BRING: At least 6 days of non-perishable food. Stove, tent, ground rest,
sleeping bag, wool sweater & fleeze jacket / hoodie, rain jacket, water
filter, lunch snacks, rubber / water proof hiking boots, wool socks, rain
gear, money for our fabulous driver (if you are a passenger). Life jackets
and extra paddles can be rented. Wool is clothing is required as there is a
high chance we can get wet!!  ..I can tell you how to stay warm on the
cheap. (Just ask before packing)

COSTS: Approx $310+ per person. For for 2 canoe rentals, BC Parks
reservation, $40 gas each way per person, ( Car owner wil not pay for fuel
) and this includes the refundable music festival deposit -  2 days of free
fun!. If we are good volunteers, our costs come down to about $200 each -
not bad for 10 days!
