Below The Camel (base of route #9 in the topo above). We will rappel right here from the summit. Our rappel rope will be too short and won't reach the ground, but under body weight it will stretch just enough to get us down. 8)

Our packs combined weigh was 50 lbs, 40 lbs of this was alpine climbing gear (another 4 lbs was drinking electrolyte solution). After a month of easy rock climbing sessions at Squamish this was feeling a bit heavy: to reach base of The Camel we had to climb Crown Mtn. first. Yet we were glad that we brought what we brought.
This place, exactly three years ago, was completely under snow.

Hard to believe, rescue helicopter picked up people right here without landing. The maneuver "..the most challenging part of flying a helicopter.." is called hover entry. Even skilled pilots were much impressed by this. The story is still quoted on the Talon Helicopters website. 8)
