Starting yesterday, Jan 2nd, BC Parks now requires reservations for *all*
backcountry camping in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Previously it was only
Elfin Lakes, Garibaldi Lake, Taylor Meadows, Cheakamus Lake, and Singing
Creek. That list has been expanded to include all of the backcountry
campgrounds in the park including Rampart Ponds, Helm Creek, Russet Lake,
and Wedgemount Lake.

Another change is that reservations are now required year round, and not
just in the summer. Campsites can be booked up to 4 months in advance, so
you should start planning your summer trips now.

The park rules have always stated that camping is only permitted in
designated areas (which means all those Instagram photos of tents atop
Panorama Ridge were breaking park rules). The changeover to reservations
strongly reinforces this rule which is highlighted in bold on the page
below.

However, there is a hint of a concession for those who wish to venture into
the more remote areas of the park. BC Parks states that mountaineers and
"well-experienced hikers" should contact the office in Victoria to find out
more. Needless to say, anyone venturing beyond the trails must be
self-sufficient and have excellent leave no trace skills.

For more information, check out the full details on the BC Parks web page:
