I guess there are not many people had paid attention to read what Camony posted for this trip, at least I did not. The description clearly says " From there, the trail continues to a lava field with great views of Mt. Baker". That explains why there is no trees along the trail: volcano, not glacier, had destroyed all plants.

If u have time to read the Wiki website about Mt Baker, u would find we were on the track of lava flow from as far as 30,000 yrs ago.
