Alex can you sticky this?

This post is for newbies that are in a tight budget or doesn't want to drop a fortune but wants to get out there and enjoy the sport they are interested in. And for oldies/people that just want to look for gears in general.

I skied for a long time and telemark 6 years. I like to get used gear. Particularly skis because new ones cost more than $700 and I ski hard. I break them. If you are in the same boat as me I would recommend buying used. It's cheap to start and when you get good you can decide if you want the premium stuff. Also if you have kids this works very well because they grow out of their gear rather quick.

There's couple places in town that sells used equipment. They are seasonal just like any other stores. all of them operates in a system call consigning.

How it work is that you can put your old gear for sell and they take a small % when it does. when you are selling; the items will be tagged at the selling price(you decide the price but they will tell you if is too high or too low)and thru each week the price will drop according to the season of the sport. So sometimes you can find stuff that sells next to nothing. They also buy new gears from stores that are getting rid of their old new stuff. so sometimes you can find great unused gear. And at any time you can get your stuff back if the price become too low. Or you can leave it to them because you don't want them.

This is the two i go to and feel free to add more in if you know some:

1. Sport junkies - 102 west broadway 604 879 6000
they are on broadway in vancouver near mec. it's on the left  side going towards main st. once you pass mec you should be able to see it.

i think there's also one in port moody but that's too far for me.

2. Cheapskate - there's 3 stores on dunbar near west 16th st
cheapskates one(hockey), two(bikes), and three(skis). I could be wrong in the order so just explore a little.

again. This is just a guide. I am not telling you to buy used stuff. I am just saying that getting new gear might turn off a lot of people out there that's starting new.

other alternatives are ebay. some cheaper online stores. Or  you can wait for clearance on last season's or old inventories stuff. Or buy before season starts or when it is ending. sometimes you can find a great deal in retail. just shop smart! compare and inspect them.

online gear shopping list:

http://www.steepandcheap.com
Steep and cheap only sells one thing at a time until it's gone. Backcountryoutlet.com is where the Steep and Cheap stuff comes from. (Tips:SAC网站上可以下载Alert;sacsearcher.com等网站可以查询以往出现过的装备)

Another good site  http://www.sierratradingpost.com/
