Search launched after sealers fail to return home from hunting trips  -----ST. ANTHONY   The Western Star


A search is underway off northern Newfoundland for several sealers who failed to return home from hunting trips.

Jeri Grychowski, a search and rescue spokeswoman in Halifax, says searchers are looking for three people on one boat in the Fleur de Lys area.

The three, aboard a 10-metre vessel, have been overdue since Monday night.

Meanwhile, a 66-year-old man who went seal hunting alone Monday in a six-metre open boat is missing in the St. Anthony-Cape Bauld area.

Grychowski says the man called his wife on his cellphone around 3:30 p.m., telling her that he would be home within an hour.

He never showed up.
