要看當時走的地方是 雪 或是 冰.

是雪便要穿雪鞋,
是冰便要穿冰爪.

也要看時間, 數年前,Lulu,Camony,和我走一個山頭,
中午上山, 雪鞋完全沒有問題.
下山時好像過了4:00~5:00pm, 雪面變硬.
雪鞋要大力踏下,才能使硬化了的雪面下陷.
Camony身輕,有一步滑了腳, 在斜坡滑下,停不了.
幸好我走在前面,用身體阻擋, 駕了馬步.
二人也滑了數尺才停下來. 我的口角也給她的雪鞋撞損了.

軟雪... 穿什麼鞋子也沒問題.   :lol:  :lol:
輕輕踏下去便有腳印的便是軟雪喇.
但問題是: 要去走trail時才知道.

應該說溫度是一個要留意的重點

我们现在还不能最后确定，既然permit 没有限制，把我们的名字从list 上拿掉，放在友情跟随的名单上吧。

到时候我们自己定permit， 和你们路上相会。

Tmm，这是Non-technical snow climbing，而且圣海伦山好象除最后的坡较陡一些其余部分都较缓（e.g. 也比不上你爬过的Flora Peak, 我晚上贴等高线图给你看）你没有问题的. 一般来讲美国hiking路线的评估比加拿大的低一个级别，比如--难相当于我们的中等程度 :wink:

带冰镐冰爪和练习是为了安全原因, 有备无患，而且这些都不难学习的

我们这里的雪季很长，平时附近周边的山上的雪况也会因天气的情况有所不同，硬雪/冰的情况也时常有，对于我们这样喜欢雪季hiking的朋友们来说，装备冰镐冰爪和知道如何用还是很必要的，这样我们才能走得更安全.

我跟LuLu商量過, 週五22號是長週末第一天, 免避過關車多, 要早出發。
當天行程如下:

1. 6:30am到達Peace Arch關卡排隊過關, 可能要等一小時。

2. 從邊境到Bellingham行車30分鐘, 預計8:00am在Bellingham REI的商場買grogery, 吃早餐。

3. 9:00am離開Bellingham, 10:15am到Lynnwood的 REI Alderwood Store取貨, 購物。

4. 11:00am離開Lynnwood, 12:00pm到下一站Tacoma的REI小休, 吃午飯, 留達一會。

5. 1:00pm繼續向聖海倫進發。

四月十八號再把詳細駕駛路線發上。

.....Because the upper slopes of Mount St. Helens are open and treeless, a great deal of wind scours the snowpack up there. This can result in deep drifts of soft snow or sheets of hard-packed snow and ice, depending on the conditions during the storms. Come prepared with snowshoes featuring aggressive mountaineering cleats on both heel and toe and carry -- and know how to use an Ice ax for self-arresting in the event of a fall. This is a mountain climb and winter mountaineering skills are required.....

Monday afternoon I drove down to Cougar and got to the Marble Mount Sno-Park with just enough daylight to check things out and find where the TH was at so just in case I started before daylight I'd know where to start.

It might be a good idea as we have to start early or car camping @ TH (Marble Mountain Snopark )? ..........

冰镐的选择：

合适的长度应该是你手持冰镐垂下手臂，冰镐尖正好到你的鞋面。(我喜欢稍长一点点) ，我用65cm的

去圣海伦的路上停REI时，我们会要求没有ice axe leash的同学，去买上几尺绳e.g.5.5mm cord自己绑一下做一个，比如----绑一个double fisherman，然后中间结一个overhand就行.

另外关于坐滑： 坐滑是很好玩快捷方便的, 但是也比较危险. 坐滑要经过训练, 知道怎么样用冰镐减速和紧急情况下的self-arrest

穿着crampons的时候千万不要坐滑，看不清前方的时候不要坐滑。

.....In the proper conditions, try a standing glissade, ice axe in the cross-body position
ready to arrest when you fall. Learn to “self-arrest” before you try glissading.....
