Day 2 to Camp Los Cuernos (14KM)
We went for a quick walk to see a bit of the Sunrise before going back to rest.  The view from the Nordernskjold lake inspirit us to hike on.  The lush vegetation, the wind blown trees and emerald green lake made this a most tranquil day for hiking.
The night was not so tranquil.  The wind was gusting thought out the night.  Hikers coming late had fun setting up their tent in the dark.

Day 3 to French Valley & Camp Paine Grande (21KM)
10AM Onward and upwards
Breakfast at the busy refugio was simple and filling.  Talking with other hiker is most rewarding.  Sharing detail about where we have been and asking others on where they have been is great in preparing ourselves for the day ahead.
The hike was similar to day 2 for the first two 2 hrs until we arrive at Camp Italiano.  Thankfully we were able to leave our backpacks behind at the ranger station as we hike up French Valley.  As we hike, the weather cleared up.  Unbelievably lucky again, hiker before us saw very little.  It was so nice that we over stayed.  By the time we hiked down at 7:15pm, only three backpacks remain.  We hiked madly for the next two hours to reach Camp Paine Grande.  We only saw a few hikers until we reached the camp.  Camp kitchen closes at 10 and we arrive at 9:40pm.  Thank goodness for 18 hours of daylight.

Day 4 to Camp Grey 11KM
11am.  Decided to leave the backpacks behind in the tents so our hike would be easier and more enjoyable.  Finally learned to relax and everything is going to be all right on this glorious day.  Just enjoy the views: the ice cap mountains, the lake and the clouds dancing in the sky.  Arriving at camp, we had a giant size tuna sandwich at the restaurant. Just as we finished, someone ask us if we were also going to Kayak on the lake.  No but we were interested.  Perfect timing.  (Big Foot Adventure)
Kayaking on Grey Lake was just the topping on the cake.  Paddling next to the glacier in Patagonia is like a dream come true.
After kayaking, it was too late to hike down as intended, so we book two beds at the Refugio.

Patagonia Argentina

Day 1. Puerto Natalies to El Calafate
We purchased our 7:00 bus tickets from the hostel in advance.  The main bus station has a number of options and is very convenient.  All total it was a 5-hour bus ride to El Calafate.  We first had to clear the Chilean crossing then enter the Argentina border.  After checking in the hotel, we went to secure our Big Ice trekking tickets in 4 days. 12:30pm  We started our Fitz Roy hike.  It was a nice and peaceful hike for the first 9km, the last km was a zag zig uphill climb.  The weather started to change just as we reached the top.  The wind blew the sand, snow and water from the lake (Laguna de los Tres) all over.  Hikers were hiding behind rocks in order to prevent from rolling down the rocky hill.  The cloud formation was unique due the wind gust.

Day 4.   White Christmas (El Chalten to El Calafate)
The day started with heavy rain.  By 11am, it was snowing.  Never did I think it would snow during Summer in South America.  Local mentions that it does happen.
I guess that this was going to be a relaxing day.  Catching up with friend and family back home.  And getting to know some of the other hikers: two from Sweden that we meet in French Valley, a couple from France that we meet during breakfast in Camp Cuernos and our roommate from Ireland.  Also got information from a guy who lives in Buenos Aires about Buenos Aires.  Our bus ticket is for 7:30pm.

Day 5. Los Glaciares National Park
7:00am  So excited to do the Big Ice trekking.  Unfortunately, the snow followed us to the Glacier field.  The company cancels the big ice at the last moment and we had to settle for mini ice trekking for safety reason.

Mini Trekking was ok. The guide was very safety minded. The fresh snow added a another element to

Perito Moreno Glacier
The bus then took us over to the massive Perito Moreno Glacier.  Definitely  must see.  And you can get so close to it.  Wishes the weather was just a bit better.
This part of the adventure was budget friendly.  We enjoyed the hostels.  We bought groceries & cooked meals.  The bus system was well organized and simple.

Glad that I can help.  Inca Trail was a challenge for me.  Our small group hiked at steady pace and always together.  Acetazolamide pills were used to deal with the altitude sickness but it does have side efforts, so check with your doctor.  The locals use coca leaves.  We did have a porter but I felt we still over backed.  Maybe because the weather was nice.  You will enjoy hiking the Inca Trail!

Iguazu Falls, Argentina

Day 1.
After a night in Buenos Aires (BA), We flew to Iguazu  falls.  The clusters of clouds signified that we were nearing the jungles of Iguazu.  Touching down at 11:00am, we took a taxi straight to the national park.  Little did we know that the luggage storage area was very limited.  Good thing, we had only a light backpack and the rest of our luggage was in our hotel in BA.
As we enter, many of the jungle animals came to greet us as we walk to the jungle train. (Beautiful butterflies, families of coatis, lizards, plush crusted jays & monkeys)  Our first stop was Garganta Del Diablo (Devil’s throat).  As we near the falls, most of the tourists walking back were rather wet.   Good thing that we brought the ponchos from Cusco.

We stayed at Devil’s throat for a while.  Enjoying the view, the people and the refreshing spray from the waterfall.  The weather was so so but was grateful for the sun once in a while.  It was a muggy 30C that day.
Next we went to the upper circuit for nice panoramic view of the many waterfalls.

Day 2
After great night of sleep and a delicious buffet breakfast, we were ready to enjoy the rest of the falls.  Took the local bus to Cataratas (falls).
The lower Circuit offered many grand views of the fall.  Salto Dos Hermanas falls was the highlight for being a 100% soak zone.  No poncho would help.
Unfortunately the San Martin Island portion was closed.  Another option was the nautical tour in motor boat on Iguazu River.

On the way out we spotted a toucan among the trees.
Iguazu Falls in truly a unique experience.  As one guest said, “It is one of the most amazing places that I have been to”.
