We took off on Sat June 5 @ 6AM and took the 7AM sailing to Swartz Bay. The sky was cloudy on our way to Tsawwassen but it was sunny when we landed on Vancouver Island.
First stop, Hatley Castle in Royal Roads University.
Next stop. Fort Rodd Hill. It is a coast artillery fort built in the late 1890s to defend Victoria and the Esquimalt Naval Base.
Fort Rodd Hill is one of the Parks Canada National Historic Sites.
The Shuttle picked us up from Port Renfrew at around 5PM. Some confusion between their web site and the driver of the day. The web site says 5PM pick up but the driver says 4:45PM. It's good we made the reservation in advance. Dropped off at China Beach day use trail head and purchased the camp fee ($10 per day) from the machine. Better bring along the credit card!!! First nite we camped out at Mystic Beach Campsite and it's only 2KM from the trail head.
nice trip you guys and a shot of nice surf/clean waves
Rick How do you like the MH Meridian 1person. Is it similar to the MSR Hubba X1 person?. I had an MH 1 person Sprite but didn't find it comfortable.
Here is my favourite tune lately for your trip. Written by John Mayer and performed by "Toad the dead Sprocket"
The first day of actual hiking on JDF and it's only 8KM from Mystic to Bear. We hiked to the very end of the campsite. Less people but it has only 1 two person and 2 one person camp site available. Would not recommend to larger group!

Paul, Meridian is a free stand 1 person tent by comparison and condensation was an issue even I staked all guy lines out properly. Might be in the higher ground would makes a different.
I am eyeing this latest from Big Agnes the Fly Creek UL2. This 2 person tent is only 1kg!!!! SWEET!
