这条路线的风景不亚于WCT但要容易些,而且相比之下没有WCT的额外的一百多刀的trail费用.

OCT-North Trip的一些想法：

驾驶路线：

1. Vancouver--->Everett---->ferry of Edmond,在Edmond坐到Kingston (ferry40分钟一班)---> Highway 104----->Highway 101---->Trailhead，能省下二个小时左右的驾驶时间。

2. Vancouver-->I 5---->SR 20 west---->Keystone ferry---->Port Townsend---->SR 20--->Highway 101---->Trailhead, 这条驾驶路线能省的时间更多，只是Keystone到Port Townsend的ferry较少,一个半小时一班

OCT-North是one way trip(shuttle mileage is 65)，我们的解决的方法：

1. 用shuttle service（一车四到五人加上背包共$100，可能会有20% off）

2.分两组分别从两头走,中途交换钥匙，走完后到约定地点再换回

时间问题：
Backpacking Washington一书上建议OCT-North的三天安排（从南到北）：
Day 1   Cedar Creek   Camp      8.8 miles  Elev.Gain:200feet
Day 2   Sand Point     Camp      8.5 miles  Elev.Gain:100feet
Day 3   Out(Via Cape Alava)     6.4 miles  Elev.Gain:300feet

我们周六早晨在OZETTE坐Shuttle到Rialto开始从南向北负重三天的backpacking


其它要考虑的还有潮汐，和WCT一样，OCT有些地段要在低潮时过，wildness camping的许可／费用, current trail condition等等（我已给ONP发信询问）

I was a little bit disappointed because the OCT-North route description  in "Backpacking in Washington" didn't include Shi Shi which is generally regarded as the nicest beach in the Pacific Northwest  :cry:

On Apr 5, Thursday, what time we have to leave Vancouver in order to arrive the Northern trailhead?  I may have to apply a day off.  - Camony

困难，Shi shi在北边，距OCT-North最北端的Cape Alava直线距离也有十公里. 如果我们第三天结束的很早，可以试一下.

two accesses to the Point of the Arches, Shi Shi:

1. A 13.4-mile backpack from Ozette Lake to the north end of Shi Shi Beach. This route covers a wild and beautiful stretch of coastline north of Ozette Lake. There are some steep climbs aided by fixed ropes near Will Point. The former northern access to Shi Shi Beach is no longer open to the public, so travelers to Point of the Arches must count on returning by the same route that they came.


2. The only one reasonable for the average hiker is from the north by permission of the landowner, the Makah Indian Nation, obtained, for now, by paying a modest parking fee
Route trip to Point of the Arches: 7miles(Route trip to Shi Shi: ~5 mile)
Hiking time: 4 hours
High Point: 150 feet

Gloria,

Your group will need to stop at the Wilderness Information Center (WIC) in
Port Angeles to get a Wilderness Camping Permit which is $5 to register the
group then $2 per person per night. We also require that all food, garbage
and scented items (toothpaste, sunscreen ,etc.) be stored in hard-sided
containers like Bear Canisters which can be borrowed from the WIC for a $3
suggested donation per can per trip. No reservations prior to May 1.

There is an entrance fee charged at Lake Ozette of $15 per vehicle. If you
are coming in at the very northern tip at Shi Shi Beach, the Makah Tribe
charges $10 per can per night to park up there.

I haven't had any reports on that route so far.

周四大家都要上班，我想下午五六点钟出发？

週四是長週末前一天, 可能下午已有人開始南下。由Broadway到Keystone有197km, 需時2.5 hrs。妨且過關后我們或要添購糧食,如要趕上7:30pm船, 預1hr. 過關, 最遲也要4:00pm出發。

船航程是30mins, 到PortTownsend是8:00pm。從這點到north trailhead估計有216km, 開車需要3.5 hrs (用GPS MapSource 計算), 到達campsite大概11:30pm。還要紮帳蓬，會不會太遲休息影響體力?

WIC hours 10:00am to 4:00pm, 週四晚抵達這WIC時已關門，除非我們可以早點出發。

再綜合我的統計, 由Broadway到north trailhead 距離及需時如下:

由Broadway到Keystone有197km, 需時2.5 hrs。
Keystone 到Port Townsend ferry - 0.5 hr
Port Townsend 到Port Angeles WIC 77 km, 1 hr.
Port Angeles 到 north trailhead 140 km, 2.5 hrs

共6.5hrs. 還未包括過關, 中途休息, 唱歌, 晚飯, 午餐, 在WIC取camping permit。看來可能要早上8:00 am 出發。 :?

多加一天的话加周一吧，Easter Monday放假的就不用再额外请假了。

3. 如果有两车以上，司机辛苦一点，提前trail两边各放至少一辆车。不过Shuttle好像也不贵（美国就是好啊，比WCT便宜太多了:)），也就可以不折腾了。

好的，我们多加一天Easter Monday(April, 6,7,8,9)，我们周五早上出发(温哥华的队友)，然后去WIC交费拿Permit和Bear Canisters...........
