Sheol Mountain, Banff National Park.

"Sheol" ..is the underworld of the dead in Hebrew. It was chosen because the (Bow) valley appeared gloomy as compared to nearby Paradise Valley..

That's what they call eye-contact.

Vera拍的照片。

In terms of visual composition it strikes remarkably familiar! But I am almost sure Vera has never formally attended an art training or something ! Adding that the subject moves quick leaving almost no time to frame and adjust camera focus, 这样的事令人吃惊死了! 8)

CANADIAN ROCKIES TIP #11
Avoid the crowds. Go to the summit.

Obviously, views from the summits are always nicer than from the ground. Less people too. Good news is that many peaks in the Canadian Rockies can be reached without special training, trails are a lot better than in BC, summits are much higher and no bushwacking ever involved. The ultimate source of such trails luckily is contained in one single book "the gospel of scree" "Scrambles in the Canadian Rockies". New edition of the book is out this summer (2015). Below is the list of non-technical, mostly Mt. Harvey-type hikes, 47 total:

Bertha
Carthew
Alderson
Lineham
Turtle
Ward
Window
Yamnuska
Eeast End of Rundle
Grotto
Middle Sister
Ha Ling
Sparrowhawk
Fortress

Fossil
Anthozoan
Brachiopod

CANADIAN ROCKIES TIP #12
GPS Files of the hiking trails in the Canadian Rockies.

Have you ever cursed looking for that trailhead following some book's directions? I am not sure why people still bother to write, publish (and read) those boring pages of verbal trail descriptions. It is rather annoying to remember things like "After hiking 1.5 hours you will arrive at the fork. Turn left here." It is not uncommon people get lost even with hiking book in hand. Would it not be a lot nicer just to have a GPS track and some photos of the route? Somebody apparently thinks exactly like that. Even more, he has compiled pretty much all the hiking routes in the Rockies and it is free to use: yes, just GPS files and photos. Impressive!

If this is not enough, http://www.openstreetmap.org/ will be next one to check, but don't expect photos. To download raw GPS tracks some digital acrobatics required. 8)

Sleep in your car.

CANADIAN ROCKIES TIP #13
Sleep in your  car.

Instead of Frontcountry Camping, sleep in your car. Certain vehicles allow backseats fold flat so that average adult can sleep comfortably as if on a normal bed at home. Ironically, these kind of vehicles often are not large SUVs but compact hatchbacks, like Toyota Matrix.

If your car allows such luxury as folding flat backseats there is no reason to camp. Just park next to the trailhead which you plan to hike tomorrow. No need for reservations or headache looking for vacant site in high season. Forget about spending time setting up and taking down tent, you even don't have to bring one. It is a lot warmer and safer, and of course it's free.  8)

Free WiFi at Lake Louise

CANADIAN ROCKIES TIP #14
Free WiFi at Lake Louise

The cliche goes "There is no such thing as free lunch". But free WiFi does exist, at least at Lake Louise @ Ski Resort inside the lodge where Starbucks is located, GPS 51.441879, -116.162256. 8)
