Still wondering about the date, 24th or 25th? Definitely don't make it ruin our big shopping day though - 26th.

Or maybe 26th works: Girls just enjoy their big shopping day whereas boys could stay at home, cooking or holding some real boxing/wrestling match. :smcf:

呵呵，可怕的还在后面那。当我们的车被拖上来后，拖车司机说他可以开我的车把我们送下去。我当时想:人家是专业人士，又是本地人（再加上说话时信心满满），应该没问题。就和Mashimaro一起上了车（爬手留下看护拖车）。哪曾想，车刚一起步就失去了控制，两次在路面打横，然后，还是靠路边雪堆的阻挡才停了下来。如果说上次没来的及害怕，那这次可把我们两个给吓坏了，要知道，可不是每一段路边都有雪堆的哟。

通过这次经历，我认为，即使车轮带有雪链也不能大意，比这更重要的是了解前面的路面状况和路边地形，以便危急时应变。我们就亲眼看到一个车在戴着雪链仍停不住的情况下（当时的路面太滑了，人在上面步行要非常小心才不致摔倒），司机放开车速（这样不会失去方向），大声叫喊地冲了下来，在转过那个急弯后马上冲入路边的一块积雪很厚的平地。他们的另一辆来支援的车就停在这里。

第二天，那段路封了，所见到的人不是在自救，就是在救助他人。拖车在上上下下的忙碌着，拖车时的方法很科学而有趣,拖车头向坡上，被拖车车头向坡下，然后，由拖车倒着开下山来。

Glad that everyone is safe.  The road up Elfin Lakes (in winter) is the most dangerous road I've seen.  That's why I send a friendly reminder on the sign up board for the snow camping group 2 weeks ago.

Excuse me for being blunt, please note that Elfin Shelter is one of the busiest shelter in winter season, especially weekends as lots of AT/XC skiers/snowboarders/snowshoers are attracted to the nearby powdery slopes.  If your relative is new to snowshoeing + carrying heavy backpack, it might take a long time to reach the shelter (though the route is relatively easy).  What's worst is, if you arrived too late, to your surprise, you guys might be forced to camp outside the shelter (if all beds have been taken).

I guess the lesson learned is not to use other hikers' travelling time/speed to estimate your group's hiking time, since everyone's ability and speed are different.  Remembered travelling on snowshoes takes twice the effort and time than summer hiking (especially if you need to break trail).  Be prepared to camp in tent or other locations if you cannot reach your planned destination or if the hut is full.  Ensure your transportation (vehicles) are well winterized and equipped.

Actually tell you a secret: I kinda knew they gave us wrong time from the very beginning but I didn't tell since I got a secret 搅黄 plan. I knew very well backpacking with snowshoes 's quite a challenge for a new hiker from my two winter backpacking experiences in Elfin Lakes. To avoid the possible tragedy of 夏子(http://outdoor.travel.sohu.com/20070312/n248656687.shtml), I never intended to accomplish this overnight plan. So the guy giving us wrong time actually helped me to execute my 搅黄 plan. :sm08:

总之安全第一，对当前雪况/路况/天气/温度都要有一定的了解做到相应的准备

现场图(爬嫂独家作品，转贴有赏:lol:）。爬嫂胆儿小，没敢到侧面照出情势的危急之处：前车轮离路边只有巴掌远，雪堆不高也不是很厚实。所以下车后大家完全不敢再开动车，即使这样还担心它随时会出溜下去。图中貌似林深叶茂，实则崖下只有数根至多拇指粗细的树枝掩映，不知下落多远才可能有树干阻住跌势，所以每个人往下一探头都倒吸一口冷气，暗叫好彩。 :pa:

这次CALL的是SEA TO SKY TOWING，不是CAA，感觉CAA好像对付这样的情况不够专业，竟然反复问我旁边有何路名，不知ELFIN LAKES PARKING LOT在哪里。:gf:  SEA TO SKY 则一张嘴就知何处完全不必费口舌。不过希望大家都用不上这条信息。
